  1. Though not as well-known as some competitors, this antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Anti-Virus Professional provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.

You'll find a full-blown scheduling utility for automating tasks and checking for new definitions as often as you'd like. Other perks found in this Pro version include technical support and the ability to run on multiple operating systems. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.

The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, and it always proved effective in our tests. The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate.

Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

1.) I find that it is heavy on resources on my computer compared to version 7 which I liked very much.
2.) I have and had a few compatability issues with version 8 and different programs on my computer which are currently not resolved. I found version 7 to be more stable.
3.) I have found that AVG support is a lot slower to respond to emails re my problems then they were in the past. For that reason I won't be renewing my contract when it expires later this year.

AVG provides adequate protection for most internet users with a clean, simple interface that has the necessary features and frequent updates. While no anti-virus product protects against user stupidity, a reasonable amount of common sense combined with this product, even the free version, will suffice for your computer anti-virus needs.

I had several items on my computer that my Norton 360 allowed to run, and the minute I loaded the AVG it started sending up the red flags! It caught several items on my brand new computer right off the back. I am very impressed and pleased.

This is,in my opinion the best anti-virus software in the market place. It beats the high priced top brand names out there, hands down and is free. I have been useing AVG for two years now . It really does the business, easy to configure and does not slow your machine down. If you surf the net it`s a must to have.

Avg free version was great 2 weeks ago, but for the past 4 days, I can't get it to update at all. Keeps saying for me to manually open up a browser, when in fact the browser was already open. At first it found alot that my previous anti virus protection missed. Afraid at what will be on the pc now that it hasn't been updated.

I have uninstalled AVG once, already, and I still do not know why I cannot install the updates or virus definitions or whatever you call them! Why don't the updates install where they are supposed to install?

I build PCs. I have compared AVG with Norton, McAfee, PCcillin, and more. AVG has found every viris that the others have and has actually killed one that Norton - even the d/led DOS virius specific killer - could not. Moreover, it does not spread octupus-like throughout your OS as Norton does. Get it, you won't be sorry ...

Great program for free, but too many false alarms. My wife`s games were always being quarantined. I guess if you don't pay for the software, they ignore you.

Why I ask myself do I keep giving this a chance? Slow, false alarms, doesn't detect real threats until you run something that does, ugly interface... my list goes on. Sure, it's better than nothing, you get a FREE edition, but hey, viruses are free too, doesn't mean I want one. Rising needs work but is still better than AVG. It's not worth my time. If some like it, that's ok and their choice, regardless what I think, it's still a choice for people which is the only reason I don't give it a 1. If others like it and it works for them, that's ok too. Just not for me.

I am in the IT industry and have used all AV programs that are out there. AVG is as good (if not better) than any commercial antivirus out there. All of my collegues in the IT industry use AVG and claim it actually finds and removes viruses other AV programs can't. I would highly recommend this product. VD files are updated and available every day. And best of all, this program is FREE.
