Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2009

36 comments:

  1. Norton Antivirus 2009 is a full-featured antivirus and antispyware product. It includes several options that are commonly passed over by other suites while still leaving many out that would be useful. The Norton scanning engine is one of the most complete on the market, but suffers from issues with system resource usage and overzealous integration with your computer that can cause freezing or simple hanging application.

Light, load time is quite good and updates are not heavy.

Works fine, also with XP, sp3. Small footprint, clear userinterface

After the continuing problems I've had with N360 I will never buy a Symantec product again.

Install on a clean install fully patched XPSP3 refused to install. Finally after redownloading and installing it worked. It did a live update requested a reboot then upon startup proceeded to use 96% of CPU and didnt stop. Ended up killing the process and uninstalling.

Good: Works like a charm. Haven't done any tests on how it will react to different attacks, but looking forward it. A BIG CHANGE from the old versions.

My personal opinion is Symantec is best company in antivirus software, they have long history and big experience. I'm from Russia, and here we have one major competitor Kasoperskiy AntiVirus. But i found that KAV slows my machine dramatically. I removed it and installed Symantec Norton Antivirus 2009. Assume, NAV is much faster.

Have it on my gaming machine as internet security is an overkill.Works pretty well - no issues.

Symantec has a winner. Norton antivirus is way faster than Kaspersky or McAfee - definitely the av of choice if you want security that won't bog down your pc.

Haven't used norton since 2001, and its products went worse year by year. Finally, 2009 will reflesh the brand and I am planning to use Norton again.

Poor tech support, the first tech wanted us to wait 48 hours before coming back with a solution. Hmm think he planned on emailing this solution to us, when we could not receive emails. Had to call additional times with no resolution for the issues.

norton failed in 2007 and 2008 ...but it came very strongly dis time...with lightweight and fast ...although it is somewhat complex 2 handle..very easy 2 ease....detection of threats is at its best

Fastest updates in the market, minimising the chance of a virus/malaware getting a hold, Factor 1, why everyone should download the trial. Factor 2. 99% detection rate, 3rd in av tests. Factor 3. Largest database in the market 2,000000 plus.

I'm running on Windows Vista and tried installing this program countless times but it wont open up the installer. My computer is reasonably average. This is a real turn of for Norton i will certainly not going to buy Norton anymore.

I bought the download version of this product. It works on Windows Vista and XP. The download was under 10 minutes. The interface is clean and easy to follow. It automatically cut off Windows Defender which some people may find annoying. It uses very little of system resources and has a graph on the interface you can use to monitor the resources. It scans incoming email. It's different from the Norton I remembered from 5 years ago which was bloated and slow. It's $39.99 for the download for one PC. So far so good.

Memory Hog. This slowed my system to a crawl. Terrible customer service when my trial finished early. I had a hard time understanding the person as he obviously did not speak english.

You pay money for bloatware that gives your system performance degradation and the chance to experience more problems.

Before my friend installed this software, and he has some problems in installing and scanning. He installed this software from CD, and it stopped working after installing about 35%. He got another 'STRIKE' when scanning the system.

Norton AntiVirus 2009 hits all the right security notes, and its superior protection technologies might even win back some jaded anti-Symantec folks, though for some, technical support may continue to frustrate. Norton AntiVirus 2009 has a leaner footprint, improved speed, white listing, and other technologies to mark clean files as trusted, and free technical support.

This virus scanner was recommended to me by a friend. It turned out to be a real disaster. Admittedly this guy isn’t very computer savvy so I never should have listed to his advice in the first place.
The biggest problem of Norton AV is that it clogs up all your sytems resources, in other words, it slows your pc down.. extremly. I would suggest buying Kasperksy instead.

I had use nortion anti-virus for years, however I wish that the software do not make my internet run slower. Every time, I tried to run the virus protection. My computer constantly freezes and I have to restart the computer. After trial and error, I was acknowledged that it was the software itself and not the computer since the computer was brand new.

Personally, I do not promote the use of Norton Anti-virus. One of the main faults that I feel Norton has is the fact that it will take over your complete system and use as much resources as it possibly can. What I mean is that, even though the system requirements for Norton require only 256 megabytes of RAM, if your system has enough, it can use up to 700 megabytes. Now to me that is huge. Not only will Norton have it's main program running, but it will also have like 6 other executables running at the same time, whereas as other Anti-virus programs will not. Another problem I have with Norton is it's detection rate. Now don't get me wrong, it is pretty good (rated at about 92% or so), but compared to others like Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Spysweeper, and Panda it is low. As well as, some people have written viruses that can attack or avoid Norton completely. Some of those are extremely dangerous, too. All in all, I highly suggest to use a different anti-virus program, i.e. Kaspersky, Spysweeper, or Panda. Overall, I ended up getting a different site and it was free to use and I do not have any more problems with this site.

In spite of buying the CDROM edition, Norton REQUIRES you register the product, including your address, and stays in perpetual nag mode until you do. Steer clear of Norton Antivirus if you value your privacy and I would recommend choosing another antivirus product that has more respect for the privacy of their customers.
